SANTA BARBARA, CA. (August 9, 2019) The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club is thrilled to announce the inaugural Women’s Pacific Coast Open 20 Goal tournament September 4-6. The Women’s PCO will showcase the highest level of women’s polo ever to be played at Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.

This tournament will bring many of the top female players from around the world together on the beautiful fields of SBPRC and its neighboring club Cancha de Estrellas. Some of the key players on the field include the English player Sarah Wiseman, Dawn Jones of San Saba Texas, Dayelle Fargey from Okotoks Canada, up and coming player Clara Cassino from Argentina, local polo enthusiast Sarah Siegel Magness, and future 10 goaler, Hazel Jackson. These talented lady players will gather to compete and celebrate the legacy of the legendary player Sunny Hale. Hale was a California native, the first woman to win the US Open competing against the male players in the 2001 US Open, and an inspiration to a generation of polo players.

Dawn Jones, one of the founding members of the Women’s International Polo Network, wishes to thank the Santa Barbara Polo Club for hosting the Women’s Pacific Coast Open.  “It is a special moment in the club’s distinguished history.  The Santa Barbara Polo Club is loved by many, including Sunny Hale, who would have been pleased to see the creation of a Women’s Pacific Coast Open, and see it promoted as a Women’s Championship Tournament Qualifier.  The WCT was her personal mission to develop women’s polo around the world.  Some of her top protégés from England and Argentina will be participating.  The Women’s Pacific Coast Open is an impressive indication of the Santa Barbara Polo Club’s continuing commitment to cultivating the sport for everyone.”

The draw for this tournament will take place at 10AM on Wednesday, September 4th. The first round of tournament play will take place on Friday, September 6th. The finals of the first Women’s Pacific Coast Open will be played on the grandstand field on Sunday, September 8th.

Game times will be released following the draw. The rosters are included below.
