Father was an equestrian, polo player and vet. Rode before I could walk. Started competing in gymkhanas and shows at age 6. Helped school polo ponies and rehab injured horses from childhood. Represented Jamaica in dressage, show jumping and 3-day eventing. Started playing polo circa 1980 (age 20) as there was a shortage of players. Handicap was raised a goal/year -1 to 2 goals (mixed). Went to 3 goals (mixed) after a couple of years making me one of the top 3 handicapped players in Jamaica and among the top 3 lady players in the world at the time. Represented Jamaica and played in ladies’ tournaments all over the world.
Won most of the major equestrian events in Jamaica until I stopped competing in the late 90s. Was nominated captain of the Jamaican Eventing team and qualified for the 1992 Pan American Games. Unable to take part as we could not get a pyro-plasmosis waiver for my horse. Won all the major tournaments in Jamaica at some point in time. Played on the National Jamaican teams that took part in the Regional FIP Qualifiers. Have won many International Ladies tournaments including the Ladies US Open. Off the field: Was Secretary, then Vice President of the Equestrian Federation of Jamaica and was the FEI representative. At different times was Captain and Secretary of the Kingston Polo Club, Secretary of the St. Ann Polo Club, Captain and Secretary of the Jamaica Polo Association. Was the JPA’s representative for FIP. Am still the JPA’s delegate to the USPA. Was co-founder of the USPA Women’s Tournament Committee. Sat on the USPA’s Constitutuion Committee, Club Developement Committee, Equestrian Welfare Committee and was the Lt. Governor for Florida, Caribbean circuit.
Earned Pony Club B certificate. Qualified for BHS Intermediate Instructors certificate. Although my main employment has always been in an office situation, I’ve taught equestrian and polo (at all different levels) since I was a teenager to date. Now retired from formal competiton I maintain my string of horses in order to mentor, coach and give clinics for anyone interested in my spare time.
